Social Committee

To have Nova Scotia Mi'kmaq, the Province of Nova Scotia and Government of Canada discuss issues, develop solutions and suggest actions with respect to social development for Nova Scotia Mi'kmaq.

The focus for the committee is the social needs of Mi'kmaw people.

The Social Development Working Committee includes representatives from:
- The Confederacy of Mainland Mi'kmaq
- Union of Nova Scotia Indians
- Mi'kmaq Employment Training Secretariat
- Nova Scotia Native Women's Association
- Mi'kmaw Family & Children's Services of Nova Scotia
- Membertou Band Council
- Indian and Northern Affairs Canada
- Atlantic Policy Congress of First Nations Chiefs Secretariat
- Maritime School of Social Work
- Nova Scotia Department of Community Services
- Health Canada

2007-2008 Workplan Goals
1- Youth addiction treatment centre needs assessment.
2- Updated child care facilities guidelines and lecensing model.
3- Social assistance reform.
4- Enhanced assisted living services.
5- Increased capacity for First nations persons to deliver social programs.
6- Crossover issues related to social/health sectors identified and addresses.
