Social Working Committee

Purpose

To have Nova Scotia Mi'kmaq, The Province of Nova Scotia and The Government of Canada discuss issues, develop solutions and suggest actions with respect to social development for Nova Scotia Mi'kmaq.

The focus for the committee is the social needs of Mi'kmaw people.

The Social Development Working Committee includes representatives from:

  • The Confederacy of Mainland Mi'kmaq
  • Union of Nova Scotia Indians
  • Mi'kmaq Employment Training Secretariat
  • Nova Scotia Native Women's Association
  • Mi'kmaw Family & Children's Services of Nova Scotia
  • Membertou Band Council
  • Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada
  • Atlantic Policy Congress of First Nations Chiefs Secretariat
  • Maritime School of Social Work
  • Nova Scotia Department of Community Services
  • Health Canada

  • 2011 - 2012 Work Plan Goals
    1. Support and implementation of Social Development Framework.

    2. Clarify policy issues around assisted living.

    3. Clarify policy and jurisdictional issues.
      i. Daycare licensing
