Committee
To
promote a setting where Nova Scotia Mi'kmaq, the Province of Nova Scotia
and Government of Canada together discuss issues, develop solutions
and recommend actions with respect to health for Nova Scotia Mi'kmaq.
The
health committee works to address various issues in regards to health
needs for Nova Scotia Mi'kmaq. Through researching the needs of Mi'kmaq,
projects and partnerships are developed with First Nations communities
and the government.

Workplan Goals
1- To establish priorities for action with Mi'kmaq communities
and individuals, based on the 56 issues and recommendations outlined
in the Blueprint.
2- To increase stakeholders' capacity to take future action on issues
and recommendations in the Nova Scotia Blueprint.
3- To increase awareness emerging issues, initiatives and resources
available to address prescription drug abuse/misuse in Mi'kmaq communities
and individuals.
4- To increase understanding of and options for removing barriers Mi'kmaq
communities and individuals experience in accessing mental health.
5- To broaden the membership of the Health Committee.
6- To strengthen linkages with the District Health Authorities.
7- To strengthen linkages with other Tripartite Committees on the issues
of shared responsibility and concern - particularly in relation to Children
and Youth.
